When the Pro model was first announced in 2019, Nvidia also introduced an updated base version of the Shield TV with the same processor but 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage priced at $149.99. Unfortunately, it will no longer be an option for those now looking for a cheaper alternative to the Shield TV Pro. Nvidia has stopped production of the standard Shield TV model and is focusing its efforts on manufacturing only the Pro option going forward, according to Gizmodo.
High demand for the rest of Nvidia’s hardware, including GPUs and AI chips, has largely contributed to the dramatic price increases for components and devices in recent years. So while this price increase may reduce demand for the Shield TV Pro while competing streaming boxes, like the $149 Google TV Streamer, are much cheaper (even after recent price increases), it won’t hurt Nvidia’s value as the company continues to dominate the AI race.
