Meta now lets you have voice conversations with your Muse AI agent in real time, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today.

The feature has already been implemented for me and I tested it in the iOS app while writing this article. As you chat with your Muse agent, the avatar at the top of your conversation animates to the rhythm of the words they say. You can also change the tone of voice by simply asking your agent what you want and letting them decide or by browsing a bunch of options in the avatar settings.

In my brief tests, my Muse agent responds quickly by voice, although it occasionally pauses while searching for information or verifying something for me (as it would with a text chat query). He also animates what he says well, although for my avatar in particular, it’s been a little strange. I set my Muse agent’s avatar to look like Mark Zuckerberg as a constant reminder that I’m chatting with a Meta service (I refuse to be seduced by a Jolly!), and seeing the digital facsimile of Zuckerberg talking to me is pretty strange. I also can’t get my Muse agent’s voice to sound exactly like Mark Zuckerberg’s.

Muse’s voice mode and expressive avatars are now rolling out in the US for the app, Meta says. They will arrive “soon” for Meta’s AI glasses and will also be available for their upcoming Muse Charm device, which is supposed to ship this year.
