Bloomberg Mark Gurman says CEO John Ternus is pushing AI czar Craig Federighi to accelerate Siri’s roadmap and deliver a powerful AI agent that can compete with OpenAI’s Dots or Meta’s Muse. While Federighi has delivered a working version of Siri AI in an incredibly short timeline, the company is under no illusions that it’s keeping pace with its rivals.
Siri is expected to make two significant improvements in the coming months. One will give the assistant granular control over Apple’s own apps, allowing it to do things like rotate and crop images in Photos and organize Safari tabs. Those capabilities are expected to arrive with iOS 27.3. According to Gurman, the biggest change, integration with third-party apps, is likely to come later in the spring. That would allow Siri to place an order through Grubhub or book dinner through OpenTable, for example.
But that’s just the beginning. Apple is expected to push Siri to be more agentic and enable features that will allow it to perform ongoing tasks, not just one-offs. Gurman says:
Dots, Muse, and Grok can track goals, determine what needs to happen next, and continue pursuing goals without the user initiating each individual step. Apple ultimately wants to go in this direction, I’m told, and I think the company could make Siri more agent-like next year, although it doesn’t have much of a choice, given current consumer and market demands.
