Motorola is the first company to announce a smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme 6th Generation chip. The “Signature 27” is expected to be Motorola’s most advanced flagship model for the next few years, though full specifications, pricing, and a release date have not yet been disclosed.
Consumers considering a purchase will first need to accept this design, which is likely to be a clear love-it-or-hate-it proposition. Made of aluminum, this smartphone boasts a slim body and will be available in two colors: black (specifically “Pantone Call Smoke”) or green (“Pantone Capulet Olive”). One side features a woven, tactical texture, while the other has a “feather-inspired” finish. In either case, the body slopes upward toward what Motorola calls the “camera plane,” where four lenses and a flash are arranged in a distinctive arched configuration. It’s certainly a unique design.
Although only a small portion of the Signature 27’s specifications have been confirmed, I find the specs more appealing than the design. The B&O logo next to the camera suggests that Bang & Olufsen) was involved in the audio design, though specific details have not yet been disclosed. Motorola has promised seven years of Android updates—a commitment that remains rare for the company. The camera setup is expected to include a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto camera and a 50-megapixel main camera — Expectations are particularly high for the main camera, as it will use the “Lytia 910” sensor featuring Sony’s LOFIC technology; this sensor was also used in the Vivo X500 Pro Max, unveiled this week, to achieve a 17-stop dynamic range. I hope the Motorola smartphone will deliver performance on par with this.
Motorola announced that it will soon reveal additional details about the Signature 27 and plans to launch it globally before the end of this year. Unlike the first Motorola Signature, which was released earlier this year, this model is set to be available in the U.S. market as well.
