After introducing new color options for its screenless CS-8 video camera last month, Camp Snap today announced a miniature version that’s less than half the size of the original. The new CS-8 Mini maintains the retro design of the larger version that was inspired by the Canon and Kodak Super 8mm film cameras of decades ago, but features a smaller grip that’s easier for smaller hands to hold and a lower resolution. While the original can capture 4K video, the Mini’s 1/2.7-inch sensor is limited to 2.7K.
The CS-8 Mini is available now through Camp Snap’s online store and Target for $149.99 in bright blue, orange, pink, and green color options. There’s still no screen, no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity, and no app to download. The Mini captures video to an included 4GB microSD card using a shutter-style record button that creates a new clip each time it’s pressed. Videos are downloaded to other devices using a card reader or direct connection with a USB-C cable.
The Mini is designed to be easy and accessible for kids, but still includes a decent number of recording options taken from the larger version. There are four aspect ratios to choose from: 16:9 widescreen, 9:16 portrait, 1:1 square for easier sharing on social media, and 4:3 that emulates a retro home movie aesthetic. Up to 8x digital zoom plus five cinema-style filters are also available. In addition to the standard mode, there are two older styles, an analog option that uses a lot of film grain and flicker, and black and white.
