The new Fire TV Stick 4K will be a little easier to set up than Amazon’s previous 4K streaming devices, as it no longer requires a power adapter. You can power the device directly from your TV’s USB port, like the updated entry-level Fire TV Stick that Amazon launched earlier this year. The Fire TV Stick 4K, available today for $59.99, runs on Amazon’s updated TV OS and includes Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
Amazon is also streamlining its lineup of streaming devices, which now includes four devices instead of five: Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Stick 4K Max, and Fire TV Cube. The new Fire TV Stick 4K replaces Amazon’s previous “Select” and “Plus” 4K streaming devices.
A redesigned Fire TV Remote is launching alongside the new streaming device, featuring a new asymmetrical shape and “more touch controls.” The new remote is compatible with all Amazon Ember TV and Fire TV streaming devices from 2019 onwards. It will be available standalone for $14.99 and will begin shipping in late October. Amazon says it also plans to release a “Plus” version of the new remote early next year, with an aluminum design, backlit buttons, and a “Find My Remote” feature.
Fire TV will also receive some software updates, including an Alexa Plus Hub and an Alexa Plus integration into the Fire TV mobile app. Amazon says its AI is “now based on real-world context,” such as awards and events, helping it respond to more complex requests for show and movie suggestions. Amazon Music will also be getting a new Fire TV app later this fall, with an Alexa Plus integration users can request music and podcast recommendations.
