A completely new platform
The star of the show will undoubtedly be the dedicated home hub, which some call the HomePad. Hardware-related leaks and references to the operating system code already give us a solid idea of what to expect from this upcoming device, including its approximate size and some of its software advantages.
The HomePad will offer a 6-inch square-shaped touchscreen attached to a HomePod-like speaker and will draw AC power. Users will be able to display memories from their photo libraries when they are idle, presumably depending on who is detected nearby. It will rely on the built-in camera to recognize household members and display apps/data accordingly, as well as allowing FaceTime video calls.
Apple’s new smart platform is expected to use elements of the iPhone’s standby mode when not in use.
Apple
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the HomePad is the new homeOS, which will no doubt introduce its own unique user interface and feature set to justify the creation of such a device. The Apple TV 4K and HomePod models already act as HomeKit hubs and the iPad is perfectly capable of controlling smart home accessories. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the HomePad will bring new features, enticing customers to add it to their existing setups.
Smarter speaker
The HomePod mini has been around for six years and provides a decent listening experience, seamless integrations with Apple’s ecosystem, and basic voice command support in a miniature design. During the October 13 launch, Apple was finally able to unveil the HomePod mini 2, which offers new color options, potential audio improvements, and a faster S-series chip. While this may seem like an iterative update, the HomePod mini 2 will finally solve the main flaw of its predecessor.

Despite its classification as a smart speaker, the HomePod mini currently works with the classic Siri, which is anything but smart. The voice assistant often struggles to perform basic actions, requiring precise phrases and prompting users to check their iPhones for complex answers.
The HomePod mini 2 will solve this problem by adopting Siri AI, allowing you to speak more naturally and get hands-free responses based on your trained data and personal information. Many users will ultimately be satisfied with the HomePod’s overall performance, minimizing the need to look for smarter third-party alternatives like those from Google and Amazon.
