MacBook Pro with touchscreen release date: When will it be released?
While Apple has yet to officially confirm the device, reports from respected analysts, supply chain sources, and references discovered in Apple software suggest that development is underway. The company is expected to launch a redesigned MacBook Pro with its first OLED touchscreen, with the latest reports pointing to a launch in October or November 2026, although Apple has yet to confirm the product or its release date.
On October 8, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is planning a media event on October 27 to announce the new touchscreen MacBook.
Speaking on a Power On podcast on October 1, Gurman said he expected the touchscreen MacBook to be announced as early as October, and that it could be delayed until November. The laptops are reportedly being tested with macOS 27.2.
In September 2026, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman included touchscreen MacBooks on a list of products shipping in late 2026 or early 2027.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo initially predicted a late 2026 debut, with an October announcement that fit Apple’s traditional MacBook Pro release schedule and also coincided with the 20th anniversary of the MacBook Pro’s introduction. In January, South Korean blog Naver reported that Samsung had begun production of its new 8.6-generation OLED manufacturing line, which is expected to supply panels for the next generation of MacBooks. Pro, further supporting that deadline. Gurman also reported in February that the redesigned MacBook Pro would arrive in the “back half” of 2026.
However, the launch could still be delayed until early 2027. The global shortage of DRAM and NAND, which led Apple to raise Mac and iPad prices in June 2026, is expected to continue well into 2027. In April, Gurman reported that supply chain constraints were impacting development of the redesigned MacBook Pro and could delay the launch until early 2027. He later reported in June that Apple had revised its chip roadmap, and the touchscreen MacBook Pro is now expected to launch with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips instead of M6 Pro and M6 Max in an effort to keep the project on schedule. In a July report, Gurman reiterated that these laptops are planned for this fall, but a 2027 shipping date is possible.
