Google may be expanding its “Call Me” AI feature beyond business calls so you can use it to message friends and family. Android Authority reports finding a “Gemini Calling” introductory screen in an APK teardown with examples including “Call Mom and tell her I’ll be 15 minutes late” and “Call John and ask him if he’s coming to dinner.”
Based on those examples, even with this expansion, Gemini would likely be limited to basic text-like calling. While Google’s AI might not automate a full phone call to catch up with family, it could send quick messages to people who prefer a phone call, miss texts frequently, or even still have a landline.
Android Authority It also says it found “granular permissions” for Gemini actions in individual apps, including what appear to be settings for phone call permissions. These settings would allow users to choose which app capabilities they want to allow Gemini access to, which could give users the option to opt out of receiving automated incoming calls from Gemini. However, as Android Authority Notes: It is also possible that Google will not release this expansion or granular settings for the Gemini app.
