Nacon announced what the company says is the world’s first officially licensed PlayStation 5 controller with a built-in screen for adjusting settings like joystick sensitivity or remapping buttons directly on the gamepad. The Revolution 5 Unlimited’s screen can also be used to mix audio from multiple sources, so while using a pair of headphones connected to the gamepad with a cable you can listen to music from your phone and sounds from the game you’re playing at the same time.
Revolution 5 Unlimited is available for pre-order starting today for $229.99 through Nacon’s online store and is expected to ship later this year. While primarily designed for use with the PS5, the R5U features an asymmetrical joystick design similar to Xbox and Switch gamepads with a pair of drift-resistant tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) joysticks. Both sticks can be customized by placing alternative heads with different designs and the controller’s D-pad is interchangeable. You can use a classic four-way layout or switch to an eight-way option that makes it easier to perform combo moves in fighting games.
Nacon even allows you to adjust the balance of the controller with 10, 14, and 16 gram weights that can be inserted into the R5U’s non-slip grips.
On the top of the controller you’ll find a pair of shoulder buttons, a pair of customizable shortcut buttons, and a pair of triggers with adjustable travel that can be shortened to reduce reaction times in FPS games. There are four additional customizable shortcut buttons on the back of the controller, as well as a button used to quickly switch between multiple saved profiles.
The R5U is also compatible with PC and Android devices and customization of its performance and functionality is not limited to its built-in display. Nacon also offers a mobile app for iOS and Android that expands customization options to include adjusting the response curves of the joysticks, adjusting EQ profiles for audio sources, and modifying the color of the RGB lighting surrounding the right stick.
