Unlike previous feature updates for Windows 11, 26H2 should install relatively quickly and without issues. This is because this update is an enabling package that simply “activates” version 26H2 under the hood. The actual release files and code were delivered via previous Windows 11 updates over the past few weeks and months.
So if you’re booting from a Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 computer that has been receiving regular updates, the final installation of 26H2 should only take a few minutes.
What’s new in Windows 11 26H2?
Windows 11 26H2 does not introduce any innovative new features to the operating system, but it improves stability and functionality in many areas. These include adjustments to the Start menu, new security features, and better resource management.
However, as with any Windows update, isolated problems may arise. Audio devices are particularly affected, as are virtual desktop environments. However, no serious errors have been reported so far.
Patches for Windows 11 26H2 Home and Pro are expected to be available until October 9, 2028. Meanwhile, Enterprise and Education editions will continue to be supported until October 8, 2029.
