It’s been a couple of days since Apple’s big smart home announcement and we have more information (and a bunch of new questions) about Apple HomeView. The device has plenty of computing power, is always connected to power, and seems like a perfect place to run a bunch of apps. And yet, HomeView relies almost entirely on CarPlay. What’s going on here?

In this episode of The VergecastDavid and Nilay try to understand the situation with the HomeView app and why Apple would choose not to turn its home hub into its own app platform. After that, they talk about the latest Gemini model and whether it’s important to build the best model if you can’t build the best products around it. They then debate the merits of returning to X, why none of Twitter’s supposed replacements worked, Brendan Carr’s latest nonsense, and much more.

In case you missed it this week: We also talked about the rest of the news around the launch of HomeView, the first big AI case, and living in a world full of recording devices. And we want to hear all your thoughts about it! Call the Vergecast hotline at 866-VERGE11, email us at [email protected] and tell us everything on your mind. And be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss an episode!
