Are you tired of feeling cramped on your cheap 1080p monitor? It’s probably affecting your productivity, which means it’s time to upgrade, and if you do it now, you can save a lot of money. Amazon is selling the Samsung ViewFinity S65TC for 50% off, bringing it down to just $399.99. Yes, Prime Day ended yesterday, but some deals are still plentiful.
Going from its small 21 or 24 inch size to this 34 inch beauty will redefine how much you can do and how fast you can do it. And it’s not just 34 inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio: the S65TC is ultrawide. That means a glorious 21:9 ratio that really lets you stack app windows side by side. and have plenty of space. It also has an aggressive 1000R curve that wraps around your eyes, allowing you to see everything without even turning your head, minimizing eye strain and increasing immersion when watching shows and movies.
Three other notable features. First, the Thunderbolt 4 port with 90W of power delivery means you can plug it into a laptop and it will stay charged, freeing you from a separate power connection. Secondly, you can then connect your keyboard, mouse and external storage drive to the monitor and access from your laptop—The monitor effectively becomes a base. Third, it has a built-in KVM switch. If the monitor is connected to your laptop and Desktop PC, you can use one keyboard/mouse set for both.
The rest comes with caveats. HDR10 is good for higher quality movies and images, but the S65TC lacks the color accuracy needed for professional content creators. Its 100Hz refresh rate is smooth enough for productivity tasks, but combined with the VA panel, it’s not good enough for serious gaming. The aggressive curve of the screen will distort the lines, so this is bad if you are doing illustrations or CAD drawings. And if you’re not going to take advantage of Thunderbolt 4, you’ll pay the premium tax for no benefit.
If none of those caveats rule you out, you’ll come out ahead by purchasing the Samsung ViewFinity S65TC for $399.99 while you can. But if it’s still too expensive for you, check out PCWorld’s picks for the best ultrawide monitors.
