iPhone 18 Pro problems: What owners report
Owners of the new iPhone 18 Pro models have already reported a number of issues since the phones went on sale.
It’s unclear how widespread these issues are, but Apple released iOS 27.0.1 on September 28 with fixes for several issues affecting the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
If you are experiencing any of the issues addressed by the update, install iOS 27.0.1 via Settings > General > Software Update.
Cellular issues on some AT&T iPhone 18 Pro Max phones
Apple has confirmed that a small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices on AT&T may lose cellular service, preventing calls, texts, and data access, potentially including calls to 911. Complaints began shortly after launch, with some users reporting that their phones went into SOS mode despite showing a strong 5G signal.
Apple says owners should install iOS 27.0.1, as well as a new carrier settings update. Together, the updates aim to prevent the issue from occurring. The carrier update should install automatically within 14 days, or users can check it manually by going to Settings > General > About.
However, the updates cannot repair phones that have already lost service due to the issue. Apple says affected devices cannot be reactivated through software and will need to be replaced, and customers are advised to contact Apple or AT&T for help.
The exact cause remains unknown. One key difference is that the US iPhone 18 Pro Max uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon The
Unexpected reboots after Face ID failed to authenticate
For some owners, Apple says iOS 27.0.1 fixes the touchscreen issue that reported their phones freezing and restarting after a failed Face ID attempt, especially when trying to unlock protected apps.
According to Apple’s release notes for iOS 27.0.1, the update fixes an issue that could cause an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max to reboot unexpectedly after Face ID failed to authenticate.
Camera color artifact error
iOS 27.0.1 also fixes a camera bug that could cause a color artifact to appear in photos taken at 2x under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices.
Touch screen problem
Some owners reported an issue with the iPhone 18 Pro screen where opening Notification Center and Control Center simultaneously could cause the screen to become unresponsive.
Apple says iOS 27.0.1 fixes the touchscreen issue.
Speaker Crackle and Pop
Some iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max owners report intermittent crackling, popping, or clicking sounds from the phone’s speakers, particularly the earpiece during calls. Reports on Apple’s support forums describe the issue occurring randomly rather than on every call, and some users say restarting the iPhone temporarily fixes it. Others have encountered similar noises during video calls or when using certain apps.
It’s not yet clear whether the issue is caused by the iPhone 18 Pro’s hardware or iOS 27. There are reports of replacement phones showing the same behavior, while at least one user has reported similar issues with call quality on an older iPhone after updating to iOS 27, raising the possibility that software is involved.
iOS 27.0.1 does not appear to fix the issue and Apple has not publicly confirmed a cause or fix at this time.
