Apple does not usually comment on rumors. If they do, the comment is so vague that it doesn’t really say anything. But sometimes Apple makes a mistake and inadvertently lets us know that something new is coming.
As spotted by MacRumors, an update to a lossless audio support document dated September 28, 2026 states that “Hi-Res Lossless is available only on Apple TV 4K (3rd generation or later).” The current Apple TV 4K box is a third-generation device, so the “or later” reference appears to be a reference to the rumored new Apple TV box. Or, as MacRumors claims, Apple could be “future-proofed,” or it’s a mistake. Since it’s still there, it’s probably not a bug.
