Other new app features in macOS 27
macOS 27 also delivers a wide range of smaller updates to Apple’s built-in apps, with a particular focus on Apple automation, organization, security, and intelligence.
Passwords
In macOS 27, the Passwords app will automatically identify weak or compromised passwords and, with Apple Intelligence, visit supported websites, change the password, and save the new credentials. This could eliminate much of the manual work involved in updating a large number of old or leaked passwords, although questions remain about website compatibility, two-factor authentication, and the consistency with which the feature will work. This feature was not included in the initial release of macOS 27 and may arrive in a later update.
Playground image
Image Playground gets a substantial AI upgrade, including the ability to create photorealistic images and make more convincing edits to existing images, such as changing colors, hair, and other details. Apple continues to enforce safeguards around real people, copyrighted characters, and distinctive art styles. Support for SynthID embedding in most edited or AI-generated images will arrive in a later macOS 27 software update.

Calendar gets event creation in natural language, allowing you to describe an event instead of manually entering all the details. You can also make changes to multiple events at once.

Preview supports more document formats, improves PDF editing, and saves PDF files faster.
Grades
Notes gets drawing tools for drawing with a mouse or trackpad, along with digital signatures, Markdown copy and paste, and links to sections within notes.
Notes now includes a drawing tool, as well as the ability to create and use digital signatures.

Freeform adds drawing tools, collaborative folders, and improved organization, including the ability to sort boards into folders. Full dark mode support also changes the appearance of the drawing canvas.

Weather gets a clearer, more detailed forecast interface, with reorganized information tiles and improved 10-day forecasts that show the probability and amount of precipitation, as well as wind speed throughout the day.
In the Weather app, the tiles have been rearranged and there are separate 10-day forecasts for precipitation and wind (circled in red).

Shortcuts gets a redesigned editor, more automation capabilities, and one of macOS 27’s most ambitious AI features: the ability to convert natural language instructions into functional automations.
Shortcuts can be started automatically when a specific event occurs.

Apple expands its family safety tools with Safari’s Ask to Browse, improved screen time and time allowances, contact approvals, and broader communication security protections. The changes give parents more control over what kids can access and who they can communicate with without completely locking the Mac.
Accessibility, shared albums and suggestions
macOS 27 also includes accessibility improvements, expanded shared albums, and more contextual suggestions across the operating system.
Game Portability Toolkit 4
Apple’s Game Porting Toolkit 4 arrives alongside macOS 27 and promises significant improvements for running and porting Windows games on Apple Silicon Macs. Early beta testing suggests substantial performance improvements. On an M4 Pro MacBook Pro, GTA V reportedly increased from around 106fps to 176fps, while Red Dead Redemption 2 improved from around 60fps to 75fps.
The results suggest that software compatibility, rather than the pure performance of Apple silicon, is increasingly the main obstacle to improving gaming on Mac. Improvements to the Game Porting Toolkit could make Windows titles more convenient to run and easier for developers to port to macOS.
