Meta plans to release the latest operating system update for its Quest 2 and Quest Pro VR headsets by March 2027, the company announced today. The last OS update for those devices is planned to be v213, and after that, Meta will continue to ship security patches and critical bug fixes until the end of 2027. Apps compatible with Quest 2 or Quest Pro may also ship until December 2027, Meta says.

Meta calls Quest 3 and 3S “now the foundation for Meta VR players.” The company announces this change ahead of the planned launch of its new VR glasses, which will launch sometime in spring 2027.

“Quest 2 and Quest Pro laid the foundation for this platform and millions of people still play on them,” says Meta. “Quest 3 and Quest 3S give their apps more performance headroom and integrated mixed reality, and apps built for them are ported to Meta VR Glasses, which run on the same operating system and SDK.”
